How to get rid of skunk smell

Many people do not know this but there are a few warning signs that a skunk will do before it sprays. If the skunk feels threatened it will stamp its front feel and then arch its back and start to move away and if you do not leave during this time, the skunk will then raise its tail towards you and release its smelly spray. And this spray not only stinks but it also burns and it can cause temporary blindness if it is sprayed into your eyes. Many people say that when you get sprayed by a skunk the best thing to do is to take a bath in tomato juice or spray yourself with lemon or orange citrus. Or using perfume but the truth is this stuff will not work very well at all.

Skunk odor removal - How to get rid of skunk smell

Use bleach to clean skunk spray and odor from outdoor structures. Use a mixture of 10% bleach and 90% water (or detergent and water) to clean sprayed areas (such as a porch) that aren\'t in danger in staining from the bleach. Because chlorine bleach is highly toxic, don\'t use it to clean people, animals, furniture, or colored clothing.

To tomato juice or not to tomato juice?

Everyone\'s heard of the old foolproof skunk standby: tomato juice. And of course, eveyone has a different opinion about how well it does, or doesn\'t, work to get rid of skunk odor. The basic premise, of course, is that the acids in the tomato juice will dissolve and counteract the oils in the skunk spray. We can\'t guarantee that it will work, but if you want to try it, add a can (or two or three) or tomato paste to the dog\'s bath, or your own. Using tomato juice on any fabrics is probably a bad idea, unless you don\'t mind the inevitable stains.

Other ways - How to get rid of skunk smell

Orange bath

Blend 5-10 oranges in a blender, mix with a little soap and lather up with the resulting liquid. Let it sit for 10 minutes, rinse, then wash with regular shampoo.

Soda bath

Some people swear by bathing their animals in soda. We’ve heard of people using sprite and coke but haven’t yet tested it ourselves. Work the soda into the fur, rinse and then wash with regular shampoo. Repeat as needed and let us know how this one works.
